A Pennsylvania woman lost her hand in a freak boating accident on the Susquehanna River Sunday. "Three people were on a jet ski with an inner tube tied to the side. "They were moving upriver with the tube held up tight against the boat. The excess rope was in the woman's hand and all this rope was pulled tight. The boat hit a wake, pulled her off the boat and unfortunately removing her hand at the same time," explained Officer Mark Pisko of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

A 10-year-old North Carolina girl was killed Saturday after a tube she was being towed in struck a channel marker in the Intracoastal Waterway near Surf City. The girl, whose name was not released, was being pulled by an adult male who was driving a personal watercraft, said Officer Doug Jones, with the law enforcement division of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. "Basically he wasn't aware that the tube had got kicked out to the side a little bit and basically pulled the child on the tube into a channel marker," Jones said.

A 3-year-old from Brooklyn, N.Y., died Tuesday after a catamaran carrying another 3-year-old, a 6-year-old and a sailing instructor capsized on the Long Island Sound. All three children reportedly were wearing life vests.

A 12-year-old boy had four toes amputated in a tubing accident while boating with his family on Lake Charlevoix in Michigan. After wind blew the tube from the boat, Danna Warren attempted to stop the tube by stepping on a nylon rope attaching it to the boat. “That’s when the rope wrapped around his foot and toes.”
A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized after he fell off a 2004 Correct Craft Ski Boat and cut his leg on the propeller of the boat, police say. Five other people were on the boat when the accident occurred. The boy was flown by helicopter to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Police say a 49-year-old Essex Falls, N.J., man was killed in a hit-and-run boating accident early Sunday morning. Robert Post and his wife were riding in their Boston Whaler with friends when they were stuck by another boat at 1:15 a.m. Post was reportedly traveling through a narrow straight between Brick Township and Herring Island when he was struck. The driver of the boat that hit Post’s Whaler didn’t stop.
Authorities in Tell City, Inc. recovered the bodies of two men who disappeared after their boats overturned near a dam in the Ohio River. Among those killed was Barton Zimmerman, 49, who reportedly attempted to rescue a boat carrying 69-year-old Ed Elder, which had overturned. Zimmerman’s boat capsized during the rescue attempt. Elder also died.
